Based on definitive diagnostic reporting, 924 new COVID-19 new patients were identified across the country over the past 24 hours to Tuesday afternoon, of whom 476 were hospitalized, the ministry said.
This comes as Iran had experienced a sharp decline in deaths and infections from COVID-19 in recent months, in part thanks to an extensive vaccination campaign against the respiratory virus.
Iranian health officials are encouraging people to get vaccinated with booster shots, as a red alert has been issued for 18 cities.
So far, over 155 million doses of vaccines have been administered in Iran.
The pandemic, which first emerged in Iran in early 2020, has taken a total of 145,687 lives in the country, according to the latest official data.
